BISSI - stands for Brain Injury Support Service Incorporated. BISSI is a charitable, non-profit organisation that provides assistance to people living with Acquired Brain Injury. Our priority is to help our members (and their carers and families) learn to live with the everyday challenges associated with such a complex injury. Our aim is to promote social reintegration so that our members may be accepted in our community and become major contributors to a fair and equitable society. With a strong focus on empathy and understanding, BISSI is run by people with brain injuries for people with brain injuries.

With the support of government and the local community, BISSI will remain committed to its vision and continue to meet the needs of people with a brain injury into the future.
OUR AIM is to develop the potential of each individual so that they may have quality of life that is appropriate to each person’s goals and needs.
Assisting to give people the ability to live as independently as possible within their community, including gaining the access to community facilities.
How people think- Memory, planning, organising, attention span, concentration and problem solving.
For example; Inability to understand bus timetables, remember phone numbers, appointments or names and having trouble keeping track of time.
Physical Function- Vision, hearing, balance and coordination, fatigue, fitness and muscle control.
For example; No longer able to catch a football or balance on a surfboard and becomes tired easily.
Emotion/ Depression- sensitivity of feelings, feeling of grief, loss, anxiousness and frustration.
For example; dropping an orange on the ground in a supermarket and bursting into tears
Behavioural / Social Interaction- Impulsive and socially inappropriate behaviour. Concrete or rigid thinking.
For example; Excessive, loud talking at inappropriate times, such as during a movie. |
